Institution Description: 

IWW is a research and consultancy institute affiliated with the University of Duisburg-Essen. Six departments carry out basic and applied research covering the entire drinking water supply chain from water resources management, water technology, water distribution networks, water quality, and applied microbiology, to economic and management issues. For about 25 years, IWW has been carrying out research projects funded by public authorities and funding bodies, in cooperation with and co-founded by public utilities or industrial partners, or as contract research for individual companies. IWW is part of a global network of scientific institutions, industrial R&D centres, technology companies, standardisation bodies, organisations, and authorities. IWW has an annual research budget of about 3 million Euro and offices at three locations in Germany.

Involvement in DEMEAU: 

As leader of WP 2.3 (Control of Ceramic Membrane Filtration), IWW is responsible for implementing a new process control system based on artificial neural networks in an existing membrane treatment system for backwash-water treatment. Furthermore, IWW contributes to WP 5.1 where life-cycle pricing will be carried out as a key step in the definition of unique selling propositions.
