The objectives of this work package are:

  • To optimize HCMS and to demonstrate HCMS on demo-scale for ECO sanitation project in the city of Hamburg
  • To develop hybrid ceramic membrane systems (HCMS) and improve it’s processes in order to increase the area of application

The following tasks (with deliverables and milestones) are planned:

T2.2.1: Optimising the performance of HCMS

Hybrid ceramic membrane systems (HCMS) will be investigated to improve the water quality (pathogens, particles, etc.) and to improve the operation of ceramic membranes (fouling, integrity, energy demand, etc.). Experiences for the Hamburg site will be summarized in a report published in August 2015.

T2.2.2: Compare HCMS with state of the art systems

To demonstrate the advantages of HCMS, the technology will be compared to the performance of conventional water treatment systems and direct ceramic membrane processes in relation to water quality and membrane operation.

T2.2.3: Demonstration of HCMS for the ECO sanitation project in the city of Hamburg reusing waste water

The HCMS will be tested for a decentralised greywater treatment project, to demonstrate the feasibility of the technology to produce water suitable for domestic reuse applications (e.g. toilet flushing, gardening). The demonstration will start in February 2014.
