Field and laboratory tests

The implementation of MAR is often accompanied by field- and/or laboratory experiments in order to improve process understanding of the site. Typical questions are e.g. how to achieve an improved understanding of travel times in the subsurface or how to investigate the treatment capacities of the subsurface for specific compounds. In this section an overview of various tracer applications is presented which allows the selection of an appropriate set of tracer substances depending on the source water type.

Soil columns are a standard method to investigate e.g. treatment capacities under controlled laboratory conditions. In this section a guidelining document is developed to investigate the fate and transport of trace organics in column studies. Another document summarizes the results practical application of these guidelines.
