D11.1 Development of a Catalogue on European MAR Sites: Documentation

In order to demonstrate the effects of typical existing European MAR systems onto groundwater availability and groundwater quality with specific focus on trace organics, a comprehensive relational database (catalogue) on European MAR systems was created to ensure efficient management of available data. By means of the built-in user forms, queries, and reports, database users are enabled to not only view and enter records but also to quickly process the data to extract needed information.

Extendet Abstract for World Congress of IUVA and IOA in Las Vegas online

Roberta Hofman-Caris, researcher at KWR and involved in the DEMEAU Work Area on Advanced Oxidation Techniques, will give a presentation at the World Congress of the International Ultraviolet Association and the International Ozone Assiciation in Las Vegas, United States. It takes place on September 24th on 10:30 within session 17 ‐ AOP Methods in Drinking Water. The presentation deals with the formation of possibly (genotoxic) by-products in UV and UV/H2O2 processes. Putting in vitro bioassay results in perspective – a concept for deriving human health based bioassay trigger values

The application of in vitro bioassays receives increasing attention for water quality assessment. A major advantage of bioassays is that they provide an integrated biological response concerning e.g. hormonal activity in environmental waters and (sources of) drinking water. In order to integrate bioassays into legislation and with that into the practice of risk assessment for water supply, adequate limit values are needed.

Aim of the study

First technical meeting on Managed Aquifer Recharge

On 5-6 May 2013, DEMEAU project partners and experts in Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) met in Barcelona to discuss their latest work: a European Catalogue of MAR sites with over 200 identified MAR sites and their characteristics. The meeting helped the further definition case studies and participants took advantage of the synergies between the multidisciplinary team. Read more in the news story of the event!
