Infiltration ponds

Infiltration ponds (also called infiltration basins or percolation ponds) are open water ponds. Such ponds areeither excavated or the source water is directly flooded on land surrounded by a confining ditch. Infiltration ponds are constructed in areas with sufficient permeability and storage capacity of the target aquifer. In Europe, infiltration ponds are often combined with induced bank filtration to increase the quantity of abstractable water. Examples of infiltration ponds can be found all over Europe e.g. Berlin, Barcelona, as well as abroad.
