Induced bank filtration

Induced bank filtration describes the infiltration of surface water induced by pumping from a nearby well. During bank filtration water quality improvement (treatment) of induced surface water is commonly the main objective. Bank infiltration schemes commonly consist of a well gallery or a line of abstraction wells parallel to the bank of a surface water body. Induced bank infiltration systems are typically installed near perennial streams and lakes that are in hydraulic contact to the adjacent aquifer. Examples of bank filtration sites can be found in Dresden and Budapest.
